I am having such a hard time finding good Fragrance Oils that I want to use. I need ones that smell good and are skin safe and phthalates free Fragrances. They all smell funny. Its like none of them sing to me beautifully. I was wondering if it is possible that I can start creating my own Fragrances since its so hard to come by some really good Fragrance Oils?

How will I go a bout doing that? There is another company I wanted to try and buy some FO's from. Meanwhile I can buy essential oils and other types of oils to create my own personal scent because this is becoming very, very annoying. I didn't think it would be so hard to find Fragrance Oils that smell nice.

I have already purchased from Brambleberry and I was not pleased with the FO's. No offense. Since I have a few FO's anyway are there some that I can blend with EO's or other things to give them a good scent? I feel like I'm just wasting money on things that just don't smell good. I also bought a FO from another company and wanted to see if that scent matched the scent of another company that I actually buy their lotions, butters etc... from to actually use on my body. It doesn't even smell the same. I wonder where this person got their scents from because it smells so good. I am afraid to make another purchase from a different company because I am afraid I won't be pleased with the scents. I thought about purchasing samples but the FO's in some of the samples have phthalates in them on the Brambleberry site. So I will be getting some with phthalates and some without. As I said I have tried another company but I wasn't pleased either.

Thanks

I am sorry you are having such a hard time finding what you like. I've learned that what an FO smells out of the bottle is not what it smells like when in something. I use FOs for mp soap, body sprays, and candles and I could use the same one for all three and different notes become more pronounced than others depending on what the scent is combining with. One thing with EOs (and I use them in my daily life) is that not all are appropriate for all people. This link here is the warning list for EO's . They are also going to smell herbaly unless that is what you are going for. You could try to make your own but then you need basically a chemistry set because FO's are not naturally derived. Good luck!

Hmm...I don't think I've ever had a problem with all of the fragrance oils I've bought not smelling good.
Can I ask which ones you've tried and from where?
Before buying a fragrance oil I always look at the reviews of the fragrance, if any are listed. Or I check them out at fragranceoilfinder.com

Also, a lot of fragrances smell completely different right from the bottle. Some have a chemicalish (is that a word? LOL) smell, but once you put them in soap, lotion, etc, they smell wonderful.

Another thing, I'm a member of quite a few different soaping forums and those are great places to ask other people's advice on what they thought of different scents.

Since everyone's nose is different you will get mixed reviews. If you don't care for fragrance oils, I would suggest to go to Rainbow Meadow scent calculator and input some of your essential oils there and it will give you some blends you can play around with. I agree with the other posters that what you smell out of the bottle will not necesarrily smell the same in a actual product. Which fragrances did you buy and what didn't you like about them?

If you sign up for this review board, you can find comments from people that have tried many fragrances. http://soapscentreview.obisoap.ca/

I have several FO that I don't care for, but my customers like them and they sell well for me..so I keep them around.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the responses. You are so right. Everyone has a different nose. I had my boyfriend smell some of the Fragrances and there was one that I personally did like and one that was like a fruity strawberry scent that he liked, but I wasn't too crazy a bout it. He likes fruity scents. I am not too into fruity scents like that. I like soft scents. There was a soft scent that I liked and he actually didn't like it lol. Hmmm. I had to come back and smell them again with a fresh nose to figure out which ones that I actually liked. They are not that bad. Some of them just smelled strong. I can actually smell it over by my bed. I am like wow that smells good. I don't know lol. I guess some of them grew on me?

I do search the comments given on a particular fragrance before buying it.

I have to find the ones I purchased from Brambleberry. They were mixed with Vanilla so I assumed they smelled wonderful. I will probably purchase her sampler when I get some money. I will purchase samples from another company as well that I cannot remember the name of. I have to go back to the boards that I viewed on this site and search.

How do you handle being sick and making soaps, lotions etc? How do I sterilize my equipment after each use?

I am actually going to play with what I have right now. I need to get my technique down before I start worrying too much a bout scents lol. I haven't even made anything yet. I feel like I am always missing something. Now I need a Hard Boiler and a funnel oh and some bottles and jars to place the finish product in. I don't have that either. My next purchase will be all of these things so I can start this already.

Thanks

When you're sick you have to take extra precautions. You can't sterilize in a home environment, but you can sanitize. Wear gloves and use a disposable mouth shield. Clean with soap and water, then diluted bleach. Then spray everything down with alcohol. None of this applies to your containers like bottles and jars. Those should come clean and ready to use from your vendor. Do not introduce anything except your actual product into your containers.

Does this apply to bases already bought and just need to add a Fragrance? In terms of buying bleach, and spraying things down in alcohol?

Thanks
