Hi noni2009 & Everyone!
Thank you for all the great information! Yes, I do have a microwave. I'm just afraid I will over cook my soap! Putting it on half power is a great idea! I need to find a dollar store around here. I have spent so much money on candle making supplies and now on soap supplies. I just love everything I see!!! I'm sure you know how this is!
I'm chickening out about the soap today and want to go back to soy candle making. I feel like I kind of know what I'm doing with that! I do have a recipe to make soy, beeswax lemon butter. Maybe I will try that. It feels like a cross between candles and soap!

So someone can be allergic just from the fumes? of beeswax? Is this the same for soy? I have just started adding an additive to my soy candles and I noticed I was having difficulty breathing. I emailed the company where I ordered the soy wax several times and asked what is in the additive. No response. I stopped using it and have gone to using my heat gun. :P

If this is for MP soap, I would not add beeswax as you could loose bubbles.

Let me clarify einnoc, sorry if I might have confused you!!! lol My mom has had severe allergy reactions to bee stings, some material containing beeswax in her Doctor's office that was used on her hands (I forgot what it was exactly), so I don't like to take chances. Not the fumes per say, but I wasn't sure if any of it had spilled, etc. Anyway, do not be afraid of making soap, especially MP, there really is no way to mess it up to be honest with you. Melt the soap in a glass container, I use plastic bowls or plastic measuring cups (Dollar Tree) and make sure you cover it with saran rap or cling wrap (Dollar Tree), this will hold the moisture in and for some reason helps it melt faster. Either do the 30 second burst on high, or do the power on half until you get the hang of it if your afraid of the soap melting over or boiling or burning. the smaller you cut the cubes of soap, the faster it will melt. When your soap is melted, check your temp (some do, I don't), make sure it's the correct temp, I just eyeball it to see if everything is melted. Then you add your fragrance and your color, stir, then pour, that's really all. You will pick up quicker and more advanced ways the more you make it and the more you read all of the posts on here. Also, no question is stupid, I have asked some doozys, I'm sure!! We're all rooting for you, you will become addicted and just have fun with it!! Oh, like SoapBuddy said, I wouldn't add Beeswax to MP soap!!

Sonya

Well, technically, there is no such thing as an allergy to beeswax.

BUT - if your Mom was exposed to poorly cleaned, unrefined beeswax, it could and does, contain pollen, propolis, honey, etc... any of which could cause an allergic reaction.

If you need to use beeswax, get the most highly refined version you can find.
