Teach Soap

Looked up some of my recipts and this is what it boiled down to: BB was 0.20 per oz, the LuAna was 0.16 per oz and columbus foods (fairly close to me) was 0.19 per oz with shipping calculated in. This was calculated using the 7# containers, since I would not buy anything larger at this time. So what it comes down to is this: if I only needed coconut oil I am off to the grocery store, but if I need other items then BB is my choice.

0.13 / oz from Golden Barrel Products. Their price just went up today an extra $7 per 5-gallon bucket. That includes shipping (to my area anyway). Talk to Ester....she's a sweetheart and if I wasn't already married I would travel the 500 miles to meet this little old lady.

And ljm1180....must you rain on my parade (getting pretty good at idioms since English is my 3rd language huh!!)? Ok, so needlepoint isn't inexpensive. So I'm thinking of training evil squirrels, who currently work in nut mines, to feed and groom my horses. Then I could rent them out to other people who have horses and actually make money at a hobby. That would constitute as a hobby.....right, training evil squirrels??

I'm not sure about the evil ones, but if you had the talent I would have you come work with the squirrles that get into our bird feeders.

I am unable to comprehend the disdain Americans have with squirrels. Yes, they are disease carrying vermin that dig up my wife's flower bulbs routinely and completely decimate our bird feeders but aside from driving our dogs nuts, they cause little harm. I live on a farm with stables and a have lot of room. Doing so enables me to do things I really enjoy like raise German Shepherds and do dog and horse rescue work. I currently have 3 very large and aggressive German Shepherd Dogs that make a game of trying to catch the elusive gray squirrel. They are unsuccessful. Because I have horses, I store grain and therefore have mice. I have a cantankerous old tomcat that keeps them away. The tomcat will catch a squirrel every once in a while and he is quite proud of his accomplishments. Perhaps I can make a hobby of teaching cats how to catch squirrels. That would involve very little work, not require much startup capital and I could take credit for teaching cats something that is innate behavior to them.

And thank you for the offer for wool ljm1180 but I think I will stick to soapmaking even though the prices are raising. But prices on everything else is raising so any hobby will be costly. Yes, now I'm thinking cat training may be adventurous.

SuperSoaper, I may be able to help you out with some cats as well! You would have your work cut out for you though. Alas, they don't understand that they are predators and are perfectly content to lie abed all day.

I do understand about the dogs. I also have two large dogs who take great pleasure in chasing evil squirrels into the woods, not to mention deer or the occasional lost cow that wanders through.

I am wishing you success in finding a hobby as fulfilling as soapmaking.

I will donate a cat to your efforts SuperSoaper. I tried to train her to bring me beer, but she drinks it instead. Maybe she would do better at catching squirrels.
