Teach Soap

I finally got all my materials assembled for my fancy Luxury Bar. Avacado oil, Almond oil, shea butter and cocoa butter. My first attempt with essential oil. I am blending and blending and not getting trace which is very unusual for me. Oh well. I finally just poured it because I was afraid I was going to burn up my stick blender. NOW. As I am cleaning up I SEE A FREAKIN' CRUST OF LYE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER. Now I am way below the amount of lye needed. They stuff if probably 10% excess fat. What do I do with this expensive 51 ounces of stuff???

Was the lye old? Did you make sure that you stirred the lye water really well? How big of a batch was it? How much did you superfat?

This is 100% operator error. The lye was new. Obviously I got in a hurry and did not stir well. I just swirled the lye in the water and did not check to see if it had all mixed. My total oils were 51 ounces. I thought I was super fatting to 7%. I disolved (or in this case didn't disolve) 7.1 ounces of lye in 19 ounces of water. There was more than a crust in the bottom of the container. I took the chunk out and it weighed almost half the 7.1 ounces. It was something like 2.6 ounces.

The only thing that I can suggest for now is to put that soap away and forget about it for a while. It might harden up over time. Next time, stir your lye for at least 2 minutes or til the lye water goes completely clear.

Well...............I went for a 2 mile walk. Now I am going to read the book I am supposed to be reading for my book club. This is the biggest failure I have had so far. Most things have been salvagable as curls or something. I did see I have more shea butter and cocoa butter so maybe I will try again tomorrow.

Made that mistake myself. Soap ended up ok but was slightly oily.

I managed to get the soap out of the mold this morning. Thank goodness because it is my only mold. Well.....the only mold I will use. Now I will 'Let it go' and try that Lilac today

If your Lilac is like mine, you might want to be ready to pour as soon as you mix in the FO.

I took 'The Thing' aka the major goof out of the frig this morning (I didn't think it would heat up enough to gel) and is it ever sweating water. There are little tiny bubbles all over it.

My mistake. That is not water it is oil.
