A couple of questions about what to do with soap scraps:

Should soap scraps be kept in an airtight container?
Can glycerin MP scraps be added to CP soap scraps to make something new?
Do soap scraps need to be rebatched to be used again?
Do I need to add anything (water?) to my soap scraps if I want to re-use them?
What do you do with your soap scraps?

When I have CP scraps, I add them to another CP batch for a confetti soap. My scraps are not in a airtight container. MP scraps work the best in CP soap if you don't gel; otherwise they will melt. I guess that's ok if that's what you wanted to do. I don't rebatch.

I chop my scraps up so they are smaller than the size of a pea. I then pour them into a batch when it reaches trace. They're like the everlasting gobbstopper of soap (if you're familiar with Willie Wonka). The finished product, without using fragrance, will change the way it smells after you start using it depending on which pieces you uncover.

I'll have to try that since I love Everlasting Gobstoppers!

Thanks!

I like that idea. I'll have to try it when I have enough scraps saved up!

As a beginner, I have lots of things that don't turn out the way I thought they would . . . which means I usually have a fair amount of scraps

I'm also a beginner and have just been making plain uncolored soaps so far. But I did make some that turned out sort of peachy colored by mixing tumeric & paprika into the warm oils. LOL It looked like carrot puree when I poured it and got much lighter colored after it gelled and cooled.

I like to take my old cold process scraps and make home made laundry soap. It normally takes washing soda, and borax as well, but then my scraps don't go to waste, and I love the laundry soap that I make.

Waste not, want not. I pick up every crumb of soap and find a way to reuse. I don't rebatch....mostly because I've never figured out how it's done. I use some for laundry (ok....my wife really does the laundry-but I help). I found that using it for laundry that it does better if I grind it in very miniscule pieces and use hot water so it doesn't clump. Actually, the everylasting gobstopper soap is a great seller for me and I have a lot of requests to keep it in stock. It also looks like wet marble when you start using it and uncovering the individual pieces; especially if you make it with goat's milk to give it a light tan color.

Do you have a shop or web site where you sell your soap?

Whom are you asking? If you're asking me; no, I don't have a website or store. I usually sell at craft shows and donate proceeds to animal rescue. This is a hobby and not w means of support for me so I can be flexible with spending & what I charge or give away. Mostly it's a nice tax shelter for a second business :)

I was asking you, SuperSoaper. I was going to look on your website if you had one. I love looking at soap pics. I'm such a nerd

Hi TCG and welcome to the forum. A good basic recipe that a lot of beginners use comes from what soapers call the Holy Trilogy (Olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil). A good beginners recipe is 50% olive, 20 to 25% coconut oil and 25 to 30% palm oil. This is just a starter recipe and can be adjusted dozens of ways to suit your tastes. Use soapcalc.com to tailor your recipes.

To answer your question midnightstorm, no....I don't have a website. I enjoy making soap....not maintaining a website so no such luck. I tried it for a little while but didn't like filling special orders. I want to make what suits me and not what others want. And I don't consider you a nerd for wanting to look at soap porn. My wife calls me a science nerd because my light bedtime reading consists of biochemistry and evolutionary biology textbooks. I just like the stuff and want to know more about it. To each his/her own. Now get out there and start experimenting. Your powdered bentonite will be in tomorrows mail.
