So I tried a technique with a recipe from an experienced soaper, to mix the lye in the oils at about room temp. the oils were slightly warm to touch, lye was room temp about 68 or 70.

I did this method so I may have time to mix my colors for swirls and such in the soap base. the swirls came out fabulous on the top, not so much on the middle and bottom, but that is user error, I didnt have the height. anyway, the soap was still about 75 degrees this am, very soft and buttery, although not sticky. unfortunately no fragrance at all. (i didnt have enough)

anyway, I am thinking maybe the soap will firm up to a usable bar in about the 4 week drying time. Has anyone else ever had a bar that just wasnt firm at time of unmolding? did it cure well? Just curious.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I would think we need to know what oils you used first. That has a lot to do with how hard a bar is. I've only soaped at 110 for oils and lye/water so I cannot comment on the room temp.

It's possible that your soap didn't gel. I don't gel and my soaps are a little soft at first, but they harden up quite nicely.
