Teach Soap

Hi there guys and gals havent posted anythin is ages! well just mid way through making my first hot process soap and it's in the slow cooker on low and it is taking a long time to do the whole volcano thing just wondering if I should turn the temp up to high? It has goats milk and honey in it and was a bit worried that if i turned the temp up it would burn.

I don't think you want it to do the volcano thing, you just want it to go from opague to translucent to vaseline stage.

No, you do not want a volcano. For a small batch, your cooked soap should be done in about 45 minutes on low.

Yes, what she said! =) Seriously, if you brought the soap to trace ahead of time, it is just fine if it nicely slow cooks and never volcanoes. I notice the volcano especially seems to happen with on the stove hot process as opposed to crockpot?

Sorry the wording may not have been right I didn't mean volcano as in trying to overflow, I meant volcano as in it rising up at the sides and folding over into the middle, or is this not good either?

I stir mine throughout, so it doesn't dry out. I never wait til the soap folds in the middle.

I was stiring every 5-10min or so because on the sides of the pot it would get a little dry. I guess thats where the elements are.

Oh cool, I did enjoy this method the changes the soap goes through is pretty wild. Used a new mold, the whisky I buy comes in a canister so I just lined it with a large freezer bag and gloped it in, it worked really well.

Didn't take any photos coz HP Goat milk soap is kinda ugly, but I might be making a jasmine and chamomile tea HP soap tomorrow so I'll take pics of that.
