Hi, there are so many wonderful oils out there with so many and different properties and applications. I am wondering, is there a limit of oils to use in each soap recipe?
I know every soaper works with whatever works best for him or her but I wonder if there's a limit or a way to know when you are simply using too many oils in a recipe whose complete properties won't be enjoyed in a soap.

Make a small batch with the oil that you are interested in and see how you like it. I find that small amount of fancy oils don't make much of a difference.

Thanks soapbuddy.
I asked because I've found so many recipes on the internet with so many oils that sometimes it's hard to believe they are that good.
I am really enjoying this whole soapmaking process, I love that the possibilities are endless and I love how you can try new things every time. Since I only make soaps for myself, I wish I could use at once the bars I still have left to start testing other oils hehe.

Hi everyone. Hadn't had time to soap until today...at least that's what I'm planning to do right now if nothing else comes up.
Anyway, I understand that newbie soapers start with a basic recipe and tweak it to experiment.
The basic recipe I've used is: 40%Olive, 20% coconut, 40% Palm.

Now that I got the hang of the soap making process I think I'm ready to start adding other oils to the recipe.
But, what confuses me is this: using soapcalc, when I add let's say sweet almond oil to the mix, the percentage of the other 3 oils changes. Does this mean that I'm no longer using the basic recipe and this is a new recipe? Is this a dumb question? I don't know why I overthink stuff this much.

Any time you add another oil to your recipe, yes, the whole recipe will change.

Thanks soapbuddy.
What about adding different EOs or FOs to your basic recipe? That would leave you with the same recipe with only different aromas, right? But if you add other base oils than you make a whole new recipe.
I guess this hobby would be kinda boring if you had only one recipe and just added base oils to it without making calculations and seeing exactly what the new oils are doing to the recipe and final product. Wish I could have more free time to try all the different combinations and tweaks.
