Another question from me....

Is there an easy way to work out what weight of soaps your mold will produce so you know how much base to melt, what % of EO's etc

I've done a google search but get a bit confused - I thought I'd seen someone (maybe on here?) with a really easy way to work it out?

Thanks!

After much confusing googling (and being a bit mathmatically challenged) I found the following advice. I wondered if anyone could tell me if it sounds right?

Fill mold with water
Tip water into a measuring jug
2 cups of water = melt 1 pound of base (approx 450g)

Now I am working in kg rather than pounds so therefore:
1 cup of water = 225g, half cup = 112g

So in theory, and not worrying that it's not 100% precise, half a cup of water would be approx a 100g bar?

I'm sorry if I am not explaining myself well!

If I can't work it out I will just guestimate, make a batch and then weigh the individual soaps lol.

The easiest way for me is to look it up on the site where I bought the mold~~ they usually have the volume in ounces in the description and then I just weight it out on the scale before melting... I do sometimes have a little soap left over, but most of the time I am very close.

Go to Summer Bee Meadow lye calculator. Input your recipe. At the bottom is a recipe resizer. Input the length, width and height of your mold. Click resize. It will tell you how much your mold will hold.

Thanks for the responses! I will check out the calculator.

Renee - I will be able to do that in future however I have just bought a couple of silicone molds from Target which are for baking not soap so that's why I'm in a pickle!

I got a cheap digital scale in ebay. It's kind of sick how much I use it. I originally got it to just weigh mail, but now I use it for soap! I usually fill each mold with water on the scale and then mark the mold, so I always know it the future how much soap to melt. I'm a complete math idiot, so I find the scale really easy to use and a million times more helpful then I could have ever imagined. =)

Aubrey - I'm a bit confused by your method. Are you saying that water and soap weigh the same?

Or am I being a bit thick?
