Hi,
I did my first layer with glycerin base and did spray before I poured the second layer ( also glycerin base). When I unmolded the soap I had two pieces coming out.
I'm new at this craft, and just wondering what could have happened?
The batch on the other side of the mold came in one piece, same glycerin, but different FO and color....
Thanks
M. :P

Sounds like you poured that second layer when it was too cool. You want to pour the second layer as soon as the first has formed a skin, but not completely solid. It could be one side of the mold cooled first and when you went to the other end, it was too cool to pour the second layer and it separated. Did you make sure that your color and fragrance was completely mixed in?

Soapbuddy is correct in that the soap was prob too cool when your second layer was poured. everyone has experienced this a few times.

i do have something you can try. if you have a heat gun or a high powered blow dryer, you can try this to get the layers to stick.

you will need to work quickly. and you will need your alcohol.

1 - heat both layers until they are slightly melting
2 - quickly spray with alcohol
3 - quickly put both layers together and press.

leave loaf alone for about 1 hour. you should be able to cut the loaf and both pieces should be stuck together.

good luck.

I'm not sure if you bought this soap base from a store, but I did that, being anxious as usual!! And I made this nice looking soap with about 6 colored layers, did the alcohol, poured when a little warm and when the soap was done, all of the layers came apart!!! I took it right back to the store as is. I don't know if this matters, but, I think the store ones aren't good quality!!

So glad to be back. I was wondering why soap separation happens and I stumbled on this thread first!

I will have to try this heat gun method next time I have any issues like this. In the meantimeā€¦I used my scraps to make delicious salt scrubs. Yay, Holidays!

I tried the gun, but because that was the first time doing it,I over did it and it all sort of melted and slipped all over the place,so I just melted the whole soap and made a new one. This is the best way to learn, from mistakes.
Thanks again.

Marion, Also you have to use 70% Alcohol, because I tried it with 90% Alcohol and it didn't work. When I used the 70% Alcohol they bonded very well. :P
