I love Lush Snowcake soap but it's expensive and they only have it during the holidays. There isn't a Lush store anywhere near me but a friend sent me a bar last year and I was hooked. Does anyone have a 'copycat' recipe for it?

Here's a link: http://www.lushusa.com/shop/products/ba ... /snowcake-

And here's part of the description on their page:

For the softest, creamiest, most luxurious suds imaginable, grab a great big slice of Snowcake and float away on a cloud of almond marzipan and rose absolute. It softens and cleans your body and scents it with a long-lasting almond fragrance. The blend of rose, cassie and benzoin gives Snowcake its irresistible scent; but those oils are also great for the skin, too.

Thanks!

Do you have the ingredient list?

Unfortunately I don't. They don't have it on the web site. Come to think of it, I don't remember the ingredients being listed on the packaging but I guess it must have been on there. I think I may still have the packaging at home. I'll have to take a look and see if the ingredients are listed. There is, of course, almond fragrance in the Snowcake soap but it's not your average almond-smelling soap. There's something different about the fragrance that I can't put my finger on.

Thanks!

It looks like if you follow the link from the above post and scroll down to where it says "featured ingredient" there is a tiny tab to the right that says "O.I." if you click on that then a list of specific ingredients pops up.

I actually just now found the ingredient list in the Lush Times catalog that my friend sent along with the gift of Snowcake Soap.

Yikes! Very intimidating!

So, if I am so new that I haven't even made my first batch of CP soap, how would I figure out what proportions of this stuff to use? And what the heck IS all this stuff? And, more importantly, how would I figure out what fragrance(s) are used in Lush Snowcake Soap?

Ingredients: Water, propylene glycol, rapeseed oil, coconut oil, perfume, sodium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium hydroxide, titanium dioxide, styrax benzoin gum, rosa damascena extract, acacia farnesiana extract, sodium chloride, glycerin, edta, tetrasodium etidronate, benzyl benzoate.

That looks like a partial ingredient list. There's something missing. I know from the past, that their products don't always list all the ingredients. It also looks like it is a synthetic bar since it has sodium lauryl sulfate which is a pretty strong surfactant. I don't think this is something you would be able to make at home.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't want to waste anymore time trying to recreate it if it's somethng very difficult. The main thing I wanted to do was to find a similar fragrance to what they use for Snowcake. I heard it was created by Simon Constantine of Gorilla Perfume but I suppose the different 'notes' they use in the Snowcake fragrance are probably top secret.

What are cassie and benzoin? Are they actual fragrances?

Cassie absolute is an essential oil. It has a spicy warm floral scent with balsamy undertone. Benzoin resin or styrax resin is a balsamic resin. It is used in perfumes.

Thank you for this information. How interesting. Honey and vanilla are great smells as far as I'm concerned. If it's in Snowcake, then I don't have a problem with Snowcake so maybe I'm not allergic.

So much to learn!

Wow, what a terrible list of ingredients. Now that I'm making soap I've found that a lot of soap that is
not handcrafted relies mostly on hype and fancy packaging. Just like food it's interesting to look at
the ingredients label.

And Lush is making tons of money too. They are a huge, extremely popular company. The perception is that their products are healthy and natural. I don't think people really look close enough to see that not all their products are 'all natural'. I sure didn't.
