Teach Soap

Hi everyone

I am new to these boards and new to M+P! This forum is really inspiring, especially the pics, and I can't wait to have a go.

I'm getting everything I need for christmas. I'd be grateful if you could have a look at what I have ordered and let me know if there is anything basic I have missed?

I'm just going to start making some simple soaps. This is what I have ordered so far:

- soap base (clear and white)
- molds (I have been collecting plastic kitchen tubs but also have bought 2 red silcone baking molds)
- 1 essential oil
- 1 frangrance oil
- 1 Mica
- 1 liquid colour
- thermometer
- measuring spoons
- pipettes
- rubbing alcohol and a spritz bottle

I know I need to get something to melt the soap base in. I'd like to do the microwave method. Do I need a glass jug? Or I have also seen microwave safe plastic jugs which are on special and have a larger capacity. Is there any reason why these wouldn't be ok for soap?

Any advice would be great!

I would also get a scale so you can measure out any additives to your MP base and for any fragrance or essential oil.

That's a good tip re covering the jug with plastic wrap - that hasn't been mentioned in the books I've read so far! Also I didn't realise that the soap needed to be 120 before pouring into molds - I thought it was just melt, mix in colour, EO etc and then pour. Although I guess as a beginner by the time I have done all my mixing it will probably have cooled down anyway.

Any thoughts on whether the plastic jug would be ok? It's red and I worried about it maybe colouring soap but then I guess it wouldn't colour food so should be ok?
