Teach Soap

What type of brush should I use? I tried a cheap one from the dollar store and it came out so streaky even with putting a very thin film of corn starch on the top of the soap before I painted. Can anyone suggest something? Thank you!!

From everything I have read and the little I have tried you need to use artist quality brushes or the paint will streak. You should be able to find them at a hobby store.

what ever you do don't buy brushes made of any type of hair... it's been my experience they leave bits behind...

I actually make soap paints and have learned to use the most expensive (natural hair) brushes (sable or camel hair is ideal). I don't sell the brushes but I used to include two ESSENTIAL brushes in a kit. The two brushes I regard as essential for soap painting: an "ultra-fine detail" brush and the smallest "flat" brush you can find.

The reason for the ultra-fine detail is you will undoubtedly want to outline your shapes in black a number of times (so the finer, the better). And getting a small flat brush is simply for filling in larger areas of color. The reason for the natural hair is precision and control.

Thank you pj. I just wanted to tell you your soaps are gorgeous. I am able to draw on paper and am trying my hand at drawing on soap, but your soaps are unbelievable!! Your advice is wonderful, thank you!!
