Teach Soap

Once again I am having problems with making Christmas soaps... last year I had just started soaping, but this year ??? I made a batch of wassil and poured into gingerbread molds, have used before and if I freeze for 10 minutes they released great...but not this year. So they are in the basement curing in the molds with hopes as they dry they will release.
Today I made a peppermint candy soap, it accelerated trace and within 30 seconds riced on me. It did begin to go thru gel phase so I just warmed up the oven and that is where it sits. Bet I will be rebatching this one.
Next week I was supposed to make the hot cocoa soaps - maybe by then I will have my mojo back.

Bummer. Sounds like you need to bribe them soap gremlins. I hear they like beer.

Oh! I feel your pain! I ruined 6, YES SIX, batches, while prepping for a Christmas show! If your misery wants company you can read about my monumental disaster here But, hang in there. I got my mojo back, you will too!

Thanks for the support... Soapbuddy - I think when I get home from work this evening I will sit and have a beer with those gremlins, as that is my one of my favorites! If you were closer I would share one with you as well.

Meg- 6 ruined batches, how terrible! I tried to read your story but the link could not find the page. I am glad to see that you were able to continue on. Hopefully my next try will be without issues.

But, basically, most were ruined because of my own stupidity but I think cold temps and bad lye share at least half the blame (or, that's what I tell myself anyway)

bacon with beer? I have never thought of that! Maybe I could do some chocolate covered bacon and package it with the beer for them and me?

Actually, I unmolded the soap today and to my suprise the soap looked better than expected. The top is a little ruff, but I like the swirl and it does not zap. Even the ones that I pushed into a silicone mold and did not gel came out smooth, go figure. Now if only my gingerbread men would come out of their molds!

Bubbles2 I think your swirled soap looks great ! What did you use to get that great red color? Im still some what color challenged.

Linda, you are talking to another color challanged person... but by reading this forum I found out that using the melot mica (used the one from BB) in CP will give red. I was going to do a two color swirl (red and green) until the soap riced on me. So I added 2 TBL to about 100ml (3 oz) of soap and then did an ITP swirl using a wire wisk - (at full trace ) I was so suprised that I actually got a swirl out of this, go figure! The small ones are the same but after pouring the slab mold I wisked what was left in the pail and scooped into my silicone molds... I just hate to waste. I like the pink that this gave me.

thanks for letting me know, I'll order some next time . I would never have guessed it would be red in CP

Linda, you are very welcome. Each time I order something from BB I include one of the sample packets and it was in there... lucky for me. It is nice to have some of everything on hand since I tend to read about something and want to try it
