So I have been reading the forums a lot lately and been trying to find the right way to make my soap with a melt and pour goats milk base. I figured it would be easier to do then making the goats milk base from scratch. But I keep running into obstacles i.e. when to add the carrier oils, scents or colors. Someone please help! It looks a lot easier then it actually is to do.

Hi Tywa, and welcome to the forum!

Adding things to M&P is super easy. After you have melted your M&P in the microwave, add your scent and color while it is still liquid and hot. Unlike CP soap, you don't have to worry about trace, so just drop it in and go. Make sure to follow the directions for your color and scent. I usually don't put anymore than .25 of an ounce in a 1 lb of soap. Some people like more but I have found that many fragrances are rather strong.

After you have mixed everything by hand with a spatula, just put the soap in your desired mold and let it set. Depending on your mold, this can take anywhere from an hour to six. I prefer using high quality silicone molds since it is super easy to get it out of the mold and there are many beautiful molds created by Wilson on the market. If this is your fast batch, its best to keep it simple while you are learning.

Hope I helped :)

Don't put too much oil in it. If you do, you will loose lather. I don't use more than 1 TBS. per lb. of MP base.

Thank you so much for info I will def. try the methods out tonight when I get home. I as had a question about the carrier oil. I see that a lot of people use castor oil when making their m&p soap, but I'm using cocconut oil instead. What do you guys think is better castor or coconut oil?

I would go with coconut. Castor works better in cold process soap.

Okay, not questioning what you are doing but I'm a bit curious (Know Soapbuddy will probably answer) - what purpose does putting coconut oil have in M&P? I thought you only did it with CP. Does it give a certain benefit?
