Teach Soap

Cut my second batch tonight. The BB "Grass Stain" FO smells much nicer already, YAY! Can't wait to see how it changes...
This batch felt a little sticky when I cut it...but it was firm and easy to cut. Should I have left it in the mold a little longer?

Could someone please ease my mind on a couple of issues..
1) Is it ok to cure my soap in the pantry around food items?
2) Having a hard time getting my mind around the fact that it's OK to handle 24-hour old soap, but can't use it for another 4-6 weeks. For instance...after I cut my soap tonight, I washed my hands 5 or 6 times before I ate a chip or petted the animals, and I was STILL a little uneasy, LOL!

I know some of you are probably wondering how I manage to sit down without sucking up the furniture, being so anal-retentive about this stuff! It's ok... I wonder the same thing some days!

Unless the soap is Extremely fragrant, then yes, you can cure the soap around food items.
It's ok to handle the soap with bare hands after 24 hours (ungelled 3 days) and it will get better and milder as the soap cures.
Washing your hands once will be fine.
