So my ex-husband asked for some pumice soap a couple weeks ago and I finally got around to making it on Thursday. I used my standard Olive, Coconut, and Palm recipe and added one ounce of pumice per pound of soap. Unmolded the soap on Friday and everything looked fine. Sent it to the basement to cure. He came over Friday night and I showed him the soap, it was hard as a rock and dry as a bone!
I'm assuming this is because the pumice is so porose (sp?) but I'm not sure. Should I still let it cure for 4 to 6 weeks, or is it ok to use now?

Thanks ladies!

I would think it would depend on what method you use. If it's CP soap and you gelled, then the sponification process is faster then if you don't gell (put in freezer), which then it could still zap a few days later. The cure time is just to make a harder bar so it won't melt so fast in the shower. If you don't have zap, you can let your hubby test/use your soap, but it will melt faster without sitting out for the 4-6 weeks (more with soft oils used).

Just have to ask, when you say zap do you do the tongue test? I tried that once years ago and it freaked me out  but it did work.

Thank you dustygarden, I made the soap CP, it went to full gel and didn't zap. So, I'll have him try it out and leave the other bars in the basement for now.

Selena, yes, soap on the tongue :) It's bad either way, there's no question about that LOL

Thanks again!!!

I make a pumice bar that is 100% coconut oil. WOW does that loaf ever get hard fast. Most of my soaps I slice between 48 to 72 hours after making them and that one with the pumice I slice at 6 to 8 hours.

I let mine go for 24 hours, mostly because I didn't know any better. Thanks for the heads up BigMoose, I do appreciate it.
