Hello All,

As I am helping my wife with our just released handcrafted, homemade soap business here in the Pacific Northwest, I thought I would once again tap into the expertise in this great online soap forum. We are just starting--having launched our website and blog about a week ago, and we have a Facebook fan page. We are receiving some sales on our website, but I wanted to know, do most of you find the bulk of your soap sales from retail sales/consignment (i.e. beauty shops, hair salons, other relevant stores)? Do you rely much on events for profits? What seems to be the ratio of retail to events to website sales, and what would you recommend in approaching shops and salons just starting out in a home-based soap business? Thank you again in advance!

Hi All,

Any recommendations about the advantages of doing ALL retail/consignment or ALL wholesale, or is doing mostly one--retail consignment in our case for our new soap business, and a small minority of wholesale make sense as long as you negotiate the price?

Again, we are just starting our soap business, so any tips would be helpful.

Thanks so much everyone!

Have a wonderful week.

Michael

I started out one and a half years ago and did all sales through events, fairs, flea markets. I did absolutely nothing on-line. Don't want to. I wish i would pay shipping on one bar of soap, that would drive me nuts. I have one whole sale account because thats the extent of my manufacturing capacity.

So i make $125 every two weeks on my whole sale account and about $800 a month in gross sales doing flea markets.

Thanks for your information.

Anyone else do a combination of events--craft shows, flea markets, and retail at salons shops and stores in your soap making businesses?

Thanks so much!
