In order to get a good swirl should I purchase a slab/tray mold?

I would try a slab mold first since there is more surface area to play with.

Thanks! I guess I should have posted more info. I have made a few batch's of soap in a plastic loaf mold from Bramble Berry. I tried to swirl once in it, but it didn't go all the way down. I got to thinking that maybe it was because the mold was too deep and using a tray or slab mold would be more shallow and I would get a better effect. Plus now my plastic loaf mold is bowing outward and the soap is tough to get out even when its lined. So I have to buy a new mold.

I'm just torn... a good wood loaf mold or a good wood tray mold with inserts. Its so pricey to buy both, but I think thats what I'll have to do.

Thanks for your import. I was just hoping that I could buy just the loaf and get a good swirl effect if I did somehting different to save a little money.

Thanks for all your imput!!

I'm not a great swirler, but I can make ok swirls in either. I just have to make sure the soap is at a very thin trace and I pour the contrasting color from high up first. That way it reaches the bottom of the mold.
