Teach Soap

I watched a great video on youtube the other day and it was Cristy Rose from KBShimmer making a batch of her swirl soap. She made what looked like a very lite trace batch and had plenty of time to accomplish all of her colorants and other prosesses. I followed her same lead, but my soap started to thicken way faster than hers. My question is, what blend of oils can I use to work at a very lite trace and not skimp out on quality. Her soaps look wonderful and I am now venturing out of my comfort zone and starting to make my first batches of swirled art bars. They turned out fine, but I do not have any time to spare like she did in her video's. This is my first post, so thank you in advance and I am so happy to of found this community

To get a longer time to get to a trace, she uses oils that take longer to reach trace. It also depends at what temp you soap at and what fragrances you use. What oils did you use? What fragrance?

I used Pomice olive oil, palm, coconut, castor, gs- extract, lavendar FO & EO. It seemed as if the oils would not blend on initial stick blending. Within a few moments they finally thickened and then started to quickly trace. I had mixed the fragrances with my oils in the beginning. What is a great little similiar recipe that I can work with using low trace oils? I make 7 lb. batches. What oils in your opinion was KBS working with? If I can figure out this last hurdle, I think that I will be able to finally enjoy the process

Your temperature is dependent on which oils or butters you use. If your oils are liquid at room temp, you can soap them at room temp. If you use butters or beeswax you will need to melt them, so a temp around 110 degrees (US) is just about right for those ingredients.

Trace is also dependent on which oils you use. Some trace faster than others. For swirling, I only reach what I call an emulsion, which is right before trace. This means that the oil(s) and lye water have emulsified, will stay together, but will not leave any trailings on top of your soap. The soap will not be clear.
