Teach Soap

Hi all! I am very new to soap making. I've made one simple bar a few days ago. It went well. My problem with my next batch is that I bought a 4lb loaf mold and was wondering... when looking at other peoples recipes, how do I know how much its gonna make. Very seldom does a person note "this will make 4lbs". Is there some kind of rule, like 32oz's of oils plus about 16oz's of the lye/water will make 4lbs??

Any help is appreciated. I think I'm addicted and can't wait to make my next batch!

I'm not sure where I found this, but it worked for me.

mold length x mold width x soap depth x .4 = Oil Ounces

If the original recipe is in ounces (or grams) you may need to use a lye calculator to get percentages. Then just use the percentages from the original recipe and plug them into a lye calculator to get your final recipe.

If you go to Summer Bee Meadow Lye calculator and input your recipe there, at the bottom there is a section where you can input the size of your mold. Click recalculate and it will tell you how many pounds that size mold will hold.

SeaShore, that's the same formula I use. It's pretty exact.
