Teach Soap

I have a very big artisan fair by the end of September. I am often asked for "savon du pays". This is the soap our grandmas were making and using. Of course, I won't "drip the lye", but I don't feel to make the job of rendering tallow etc. So, do you think it is ok to use ready made lard bricks or is "tallow" soap absolutely made with rendered tallow ?

I watched in my dictionnary and have seen that tallow and lard seem not being the same (tallow is "suet" ?)

Also, your opinion : do you think that tallow soap (asked by some) could make the others (customers) feel offended to see that I use an animal fat ? (this is not really my taste either).

I make tallow soaps. I don't render the fat. I'm sure it will be fine.

Sometimes, some people are toutchy with "animals"... That reminds me of one customer once who asked me if I have goatmilk soap. I said no, I have not g.m. soap. So she was looking at my soaps and said : oh, I don't know, I don't know... maybe you use animal matters and you don't say. I don't want anything from animals in the soaps I buy... So I told her that as far as I know, a goat is not a plant.

That could be funny to hear some soap selling stories like that...

Technically speaking Tallow is rendered beef fat and Lard is rendered pork fat. Both Tallow and Lard were used for "old fashioned" soap making depending on which was on hand.

Thank you. I went to see the site. This is cheap, but I would have to buy too much, and this would cross the borders (I am in Canada) I would have to pay custom fees and shipping, plus the money change, I think I should buy ready prepared lard bricks.
Really, you have better opportunities for good and varied soapmaking stuff in USA.
