I've been using 1 tsp of salt dissolved with my lye water per batch of soap to harden the bars, the problem is that when I cut them, they start slicing fine, then at the end they break, they look ugly, could you guys share your experiences with sodium lactate, since it's a salt, how soon can you cut your bars, have you had any problems of bars breaking?

I use it sometimes with my softer formula at about 1 to 1.5% PPO. I usually cut my loaf at least 24 hrs. after pour. Usually I cut really slow and never have bar breaking on me. But I do see bristle edges at the bottom of the cuts no matter how careful I cut it. I just don't seem to be able to have a clean sharp bottom edge when I slice my kitchen knife top down.

If it's a hard enough recipe on its own, I would leave the salt out. Try a miter box and a spackle knife to cut your soap with.

I use a spackle knife too. 10 inches long. Made cutting soap alot easier.

I love SL...I use it a lot...I use a cheese cutter to cut most of mine.... :) ..if I have problems tho..I will leave the loaf for a day or two and then cut....

Thank you all for your responses, I think I'll give it a try and see how it works for me, usually I wait about 20 hours to cut my soap, hopefully that works.
