Teach Soap

Or maybe not, but it's never happened to me before..

I made some guest soaps perhaps 2 weeks ago and packaged them immediately after they were finished. Two soaps were the same, one was different. I found out today as I went to retrieve them that the different one (which I had used a different scent and dye for) had developed a gritty and slippery film on the outside. I was just playing around at the time I made the soaps, so I hadn't really measured anything out and I've had soaps sweat before but the gritty part totally stumps me.

Any ideas? I wasn't thinking, so I wiped the film off the soap before it occurred to me to get a picture or anything. Once wiped down the soap looked pretty much picture perfect again.

I don't know, but maybe the color didn't get mixed well? If you use liquid colors, could it have been the sediment from the bottom of the bottle?

Liquid black dye is notorious for sediments. That's why I prefer black mica if I need black.

Sorry to kick up an old post but I found the bar (I had cleaned it, wrapped it up and misplaced it) and it was covered in stuff again, but this time I managed to get a picture of it. I haven't done much in the way of soaps lately (because I've been obsessed with scented wax tarts and solid perfumes the last few months) but before I start again I figured I'd post a picture of the soap issue and see if anyone had any suggestions as to what the problem could be.

That happens to my MP soaps if I leave them uncovered in a open container. If they are wrapped or in a tight container they don't get this "bloom".

I agree. After you wrap them you can shrink the wrapping to make a better seal around the soap. I use just the basic grocery store saran wrap and a hair dryer. (If you get thicker 'shrink wrap' you may need a heat gun instead of a hair dryer.)
