Teach Soap

One day several months ago, I tried putting my recipe into about 5 different online calculators.. which I remember one was from MMS, Snowdrift, (I think Essential Depot), maybe Brambleberry, and I forget the other. Plus, I did my own calculations. There weren't any two answers the same - though I think 3 were in the same neighborhood. So my question is, how do you know who is most correct? I've done all my own calculations since then and have never had a problem; just want to make sure I'm getting the most correct amounts of lye.

I just asked that same question...always recalculate...and when I recalculate someone's tried and true recipe...it is always different....I

Different calculators will give you a slightly different recipe because the actual SAP value is only a range. The same oil varies slightly due to conditions when grown, how it was grown, how it was processed and where.
For example, olive oil has a SAP range of 184–196 (virgin and refined) and 182–193 (pomace).

Right. And also, different coders program their calculators differently when it comes to rounding. Some might always round to 2 decimal places and some might not round at all but round your final number. If that makes sense.

Well I downloaded a calculator that allows me to change the values of the SAPs myself.. (From Kathy Millers site) so I'll see how that performs. he rounds down.
