Teach Soap

This may be a dumb question but i'll ask it anyway.

I want to make cp soap using a fragrance that has some vanilla in it. I already have vanilla stabilizer so that the soap does not discolor brown. My question though is whether I would still need it even if I plan to color my soap a green color using parsley powder. Can I do without the Vanilla Stabilizer or is it a must? If so, do I color the soap first, then add the fragrance and then add the vanilla stabilizer?

If you don't add vanilla stabilizer to your soap, then add your vanilla based fragrance and parsley powder, it will turn brown. If you do add the stabilizer, it will still turn brown over time as the chlorophyl in the parsley oxidizes. If you want a natural green, I would suggest green clay instead. Do you know what the % of vanilla is in the fragrance?

I am curious since the fragrance is bamboo sugar cane and I really do want a green color either it be a swirl or whatnot (rethinking the design)...how will the green clay do? would it be more of a pastel color? Is there perhaps a green coloring either pigment or mica or liquid pigment that will get a deeper forest green?

Green clay in soap produces a very muted, soft green. If you want a brighter green, I would go with green oxide.

If you want to deepen the color, you can use a small amount of black oxide with it.

thank you! I was a little worried about the green clay because it says it shouldn't be used with dry skin as it draws oils away from the skin. My family have dry skin, especially here in Colorado.

I can't wait to do this make this one.

Depending on how much clay is used, it can be drying. The most gentle and least drying is the pink or kaolin clay.

Not a professional answer here - but - how about pouring off what you want to color green. Then adding an amended amount of vanilla to the main batch. Then when you swirl; the side batch of green won't have vanilla in it.

To those that know: Will this make the scent smell too weak?
