Teach Soap

I am a new soaper, and am having trouble getting the amount of fragrance just right.

My first batches I used about 1tsp per pound of oils, and the fragrance didn't stick. That fragrance oil was from Magestic Mtn Sage. After more research on this forum, I used .7 ounces per lb of some fragrance oil from BB. WOW.

That batch is curing right now, and my entire house smells like Apple Jack. What is a good amount of FO to use?

You can start with 0.5 oz. of scent per lb of oils and see if that's strong enough for you. I usually use 0.7 per lb.

Somewhere I've seen a formula for this, do you know it Soapbuddy? If you do, maybe you can put it somewhere with a sticky note?

what I saw was something like

Citrus is ___ per pound oils
EO is ___ per pound oils
FO is ___ per pound oils
Spices (cinnamon, etc...) is ___ per pound oils

you get the idea.. but for the life of me I don't know where I saw this. Thanks for all your help to me and others! It's appreciated, even by the lurkers.

I don't have a formula per say, but here are just some general outlines.

Citrus is usually 1 oz. per pound oils (Orange is known to fade, unless you use 5X or 10X)
EO is 0.3 to 1 oz. per pound oils (Essential Oils have different strengths, so it's best to research each particular EO)
FO is 0.5 to 1 oz. per pound oils
Spices (cinnamon, etc...) is 0.1 to 0.3 per pound oils (Some spices are know accelerators or seizers)
