Hiya,

i've been asked to do a soap with a little boys name on it. I've never attempted anything like this, the obvious thing would be to use small cookie cutters, but i don't have time to order any in as they want it for next week.

So i wondered has anyone made anything like this any other way? maybe cutting the letters out freehand and embedding them, do you think this would work? actually i seem to remember a tutorial maybe soapylove or soapqueen but think it was just initials. And typically the kid has a long name, why couldn't it of been somthing short like ben or bob

Fleximold has a great alphabet mold just the right size that Brambleberries sell but since that's out, there is freehand cutouts or a alphabet chocolate mold which you should be able to get a cheap one from any cake & chocolate supply shop or from your local craft shop.
The way l would do it is :-After you have got your letters done you just need to pour a small layer of clear ,give your letters a good spray of alcohol then set them in the clear before it dries , then do a final pour over the top of the letters not forgetting to spray with alcohol in between layers and also make sure you are using non bleeding colours..
Here is the link to the tutorial http://soap-queen.blogspot.com/search?q=initials you would use the same technique only a lot smaller letters. Its going to be very fiddly with small letters.

Victoria, I hope this tip helps you. Ok. First you go to Michaels or Joanns with a 40% or 50% off coupon and get yourself the "Clear Stamps", they use those for stamping/making scrapbooks. Then you find a size that fits your soap(they have all size letters and numbers). Make sure you get enough letters. Then look at the video Soap Queen TV: Holiday Stamp Project video she has on You Tube and that should give you an idea in how to make your soaps with names. Make sure you put the letters correct so when you flip the soap over the letters will be where they're supposed to. Good Luck!!!

Thanks to both of you.

Unfortunately i'm in the UK so don't have the great supplies you have. If only i could have a trip to joannes or micheals, i spent a fortune in both when i went on holiday to orlando.

I'll try cutting the letters freehand or follow the initial one on soap queen but do the full name.

Hi Victoria, well it doesn't have to be those stores exactly. You can also get them at a scrapbook store or online just look for clear stamps because I have seen some stores on there that are from the UK and they have alot of clear stamps. Good Luck.

For something quick you might try the photographic paper to float in the soap with the babies name on it. The paper is called water soluble photo paper and BB sells it by the sheet for an experiment it might be worth it to you.
