Hi soapy friends! I hope you can help me. I am trying to make the silhouette soaps as in the demo on the soap queen blog. I spent about 2 hours cutting out my shapes, but as soon as I spritzed them with the alcohol, the black started coming off all over my fingers. I wiped each one with a towel, spritzed again and set in the soap....but they are still bleeding black (into the clear)!!

I don't think I am putting them into too hot soap (especially since the black was coming off even before I put them in). What can I do to prevent this from happening? Am I using too muck black oxide? I added just enough to get a good black, I thought.

Thanks for your help!!

Melissa

What are you using for the black and how much?

I am using black oxide, maybe 1/2 tsp for 6 oz soap.

Thank you. I will try that. I used the black oxide because the tutorial said that it does not bleed, but obviously that is not the case!

To Mel: I agree with soapbuddy. You need to use Black Mica. I got some that's really good and cheap. I got it at www.tkbtrading.com . It hasn't bleed on me or anything else. I hope this helps you.

Weird. I have never ever had Black Oxide bleed on me and I've been embedding oxide-colored soaps into other soaps since I was 16.

Was it oxide from Bramble Berry?

Any colorant can bleed if you use too much. To save the soap you already made, you might just take your black soaps and melt them with some clear to lessen the color to soap ratio.

It's always tricky trying to find the exact amount of color that works perfect for you. But once you've got it you'll be set!

White base is hard to get true black, due to the titanium dioxide in it. It works better with clear.

Totally agree - I always get my black with a clear soap and then add just a tinch of melted white soap to make it go opaque without going gray.

Success!! I took 4 ounces of clear soap and added 1 ounce of the overly colored black soap and it was perfect. The soaps turned out so cute and no bleeding. Thanks everyone for your help!!
