So, today I was making a small batch of Lovespell soap in a little silicone mold. Pink base with purple mica swirl (or so we hope). Anyway, I pulled it out of the oven a bit ago, and it was looking rather plain and not so purple anymore. I thought about maybe brushing some mica on the top with a paintbrush, but alas...I had no paintbrush to do so. What's a girl to do! Well, I had some pinkish sugar sparkle stuff for cakes in a small vial, and I noticed every time I opened the vial, it poofed everywhere. So I opened the vial, tipped it just a bit, and while tapping the side with my nail, I blew air over the mouth of the vial and literally airbrushed the top of the soap with sparkles! This is probably very "duh" to older soapmakers, but it looks awesome and I got totally excited (obviously). I tried to take pictures but my little cellphone camera isn't really catching the sparkles very well. Anyway, thought I'd share this little idea for anyone wanting to add some shimmer to the top surface of soap, lol.

Looks good! Just don't do that with an overhead fan. I sparkled for a week.

Lol! I actually inhaled alot of it accidentally. Luckily it's just sugar for frosting cakes, so no worries, but might be something to think of if trying the same with soap mica

I love things that sparkle! Great thinking! I will now have to look closer at that baking isle in the stores.

So...I touched it this morning and left a sparkly opalescent fingerprint! Uh oh. I sprayed with alcohol to hopefully get the sparkle to stick a bit better. If that fails...maybe a layer of glittery M&P on top. Experiment time!

Success! The alcohol spray seems to have fixed it onto the soap. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

The soap did weird things! The purple that disappeared on top, showed up inside, and the pink that was ok on the outside, turned grey in the middle!

But here's the tops of the cut bars on my drying rack. Better show of how its less sparkly, more opalescent, then the first picture showed. I ended up doing three 'airbrush' layers to build depth to the opalescence, spraying alcohol between layers.

It looks interesting! You said that you used a pink base. Was this base a pink oxide or?

Yep, ultramarine pink oxide. And the purple was violacious violet mica, which I missed the "don't use in CP" note on, lol.
