Teach Soap

If your recipe of 30 30 30 oils is soaped at 40% water as a % of oils and you are soaping 16 ounces of oils, approximately how much water would that be? (apx 6.4 ounces H2O)

So if it is suggested that a fragrance that moves very fast be soaped at full water would you put 100% into the soap calc? Approximately how much water would that be?

Sorry to be so thick but this information doesn't seem to stick in my mind!

My calculations came out to be 6.4 oz of water (thank you Sister Al for teaching me this). With the batch that just went to gel fairly quickly on me... used plumeria, tangerine and yuzu... I went with a 38 % water. I wonder what the max amount we could use and not have to cure it for 6 months
Have you tried soap calc yet? I always run my recipes thru a calculator.

Let me give you an example. You have 16 ozs. of coconut oil. According to soap calc, to saponify this oil you will need 2.7 oz. of lye for a 7% superfat and 4 to 6 ozs. of water. Full amount is 6 ozs. of water.

Thank you so much buddy I appreciate your response and yes now I see the difference and it does make sense! I use soap calc and they don't give a range but I almost always use 40%. YEAH!

I normally use SummerBeeMeadows soap calculator but love the properties of the soapcalc one. The first time I used soapcalc I did the default 38% and it took forever to cure. I've heard others say that they usually use 35% of the water amount.
