Teach Soap

Help anybody!! I did a cp batch about 7 hours ago, went to check on it and there was a big split down the middle of the soap!! Is this ok? What did I do wrong? I used the MMS lye calculator and Here is my recipe -

2 oz of castor
9 oz coconut oil
16 oz olive oil
7 oz palm oil
1oz of FO
11 oz water
4.6 oz of Lye

It overheated. Try to cool it off as soon as you can. You can put it in the fridge if need be. Some FO's do tend to overheat.

I did my cp batch in BB's plastic basic loaf mold, put it in a cardboard box, closed the lid then wrapped it in a blanket and put it under the sink, this is where I put all of my molds because I have small children and a puppy. I live in Charlotte NC and the temperature is hot but the AC is always going so I would say that the temp inside our apartment is usually between 70 and 77. Is this batch ruined?

Next time I would leave the lid off. Cover the top with wax paper and only lightly insulate with a towel instead of a blanket. Try cutting this batch and if there aren't any air or lye pockets, you should be ok. Check for zap. If it zaps and all you calculations are correct, I would rebatch.

To insulate or not to insulate?
Most of my soaps that have had nice gel don't seem to keep their scent. So I'm going to try a batch tonight with low temp start, and no insulation. What do you think?

most of my 633 pounds of soap I've made has been 115 degree start, then on to nice gel.
most batches are 58.5 ounces with 2 ounces of EO.

You're correct - Orange fades fast.

I'll try the 2.5 ounces per batch.
