Teach Soap

Getting ready to purchase one of the Baltic birch molds from Brambleberry but would like to hear from any of you soapers that have one of these and how you would review it.

I have the two pound mold for test batches, it is a bit small and hard to line in my opinion, but darling and of superb quality. I would recommend a larger size and will purchase a larger size soon.

Geez sorry if this sounds like a paid ad, it isn't and no I don't get paid per post either! LOL

Thanks for the input Mella. I was planning on ordering the 2 pound mold (I think that holds nine bars, right?). Maybe I should consider a larger one. Do you have to line it? I thought it already had a liner and the dividers in it.

My mold is for apx 7 soaps they are standing up in a log type mold. If you are using the low mold with dividers well that is a different matter altogether. Sorry I forgot they sold both types, have fun! HTH

I second everything Catie said. I LOVE the molds!! I have two of the large 36 bar molds and they are great for swirling and the dividers make everything uniform.

I did have one batch seize up and by the time I got all the soap in I had to hammer the dividers in, but this was the fault of the fragrance oil I used and NOT the mold!

I would now love to get at least one of each of the smaller ones so that I can make smaller batches and test batches.

I am totally in love with our new Baltic Birch Molds, too. It's so great to hear that everyone else like them too!
Althought there are side pieces and an optional bottom piece you still need to line your mold so that your soap doesn't stick. Use either butcher paper or plastic drop cloths.

Anne-Maire's done quite a few projects with them already over on the blog. Including this awesome one with melt & pour!

Is it necessary to insulate using the mold? Last time I used it, it had the white ash on the top. Tonight I am forgoing the insulation to see what happens. I hope I'm not going to blow it! Last time I mixed at 90 degrees and tonight it was 85 degrees.
