Teach Soap

yay! I did my second batch yesterday. I can't un-mold it until 6pm though. But I think it went fairly well.
I split the batch and used 2 different fragrances for this one, I had my dad help me while I taught him how to make soap. He stirred the fragrance in, and I stick blended it, and stirred it in. We'll see how they turned out.

I used one BB fragrance, and one non BB fragrance. They both acted the same, sped up trace.

I had ordered more butters and oils, and created a recipe with them using soapcalc.
25 Coconut Oil
15 Palm Oi
10 Mango Seed Oil
15 Olive Oil
10 Sweet Almond Oil
10 Castor Oil
10 Avocado Oil
5 Jojoba

Hardness 40
Cleansing 23
Conditioning 52
Bubbly 32
Creamy 25
Iodine 58
INS 161

It's pretty much the same ratios of hard:Liquid oils as my first batch. And it looked pretty much identical in the way it went.

I guess it is. It's solid at RT.
But when I got in in shipment it was liquid! lol. Hot day.

Just un-molded them today, they look great. my large mold was still gelled. And only one bar had white on it. I'll pH test it tomorrow. I didn't have the strips with me cause they were at my dads house.

What purpose do the ph strips serve?

The test strips are easier to use than the meters though. The meters only work in solution. Well, so do the pH strips, but you can do it directly on the soap bar.
pH meters have to have the electrode completely submerged in a solution for them to work, which could lead to a less accurate result. And promerly storing, and calibrating pH meters is also important. The Electrodes have to always be wet, and bet kept in a neutral pH solution (H2O), (But tap water can also be more on the alkaline side). pH also changes with humidity and temperature.

pH strips don't give an exact number, but they give an idea. Basically, if it looks like it's above a pH of 10, then obviously it's not safe to use.

Although, there are some very complicated ways to find out what the pH should be, but theory isn't always reality. And as much as I love chemistry, I hate the math that goes with it.
