Teach Soap

My soaps suffer from streaky lines and I have been slowly trying to work out the cause. I have read recently that it's beneficial to melt your total quantity of palm oil before you use it. I have a large quantity of palm and now it is getting down to approx the last third. I melted the remainder (gently in warm water) a few days ago however it is still completely liquid and doesn't seem to want to solidify at all! And we're heading into winter.

Is this normal or is this a problem?

Unless it's homogenized, it's always a good idea to melt the whole container first and keep stirring as it solidifies. If you don't, there's a chance that those dots in your soap are stearic acid that has solidified. This may accelerate your trace. It will take some time after you melt it for it to become solid again. I wouldn't worry about it now.

I have been getting my palm oil in 50 lb. buckets for awhile. I always wondered "How important is it to stir the palm oil?" Here are the results of my test. When left unstirred the bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of the bucket the oil will appear whiter than the rest. I melted some of this white palm oil and it seemed to have some small bubbles to it, almost like it was carbonated. Not many, just a few. I melted the whole bucket and stirred often as it cooled till it became solid again. This time the color of the oil was much more consistant thruout the bucket. I did notice that the oil around the very edge of the bucket had a very slight whiter appearance to it but that was it. If you try this I would reccomend you start in the morning because it does take awhile for the oil to become solid again. A cool spot to let it set would not huirt either.
