I used the Lye calculator on MMS and inserted some oil inputs, followed the directions extremely carefully and let the soap insulate for 18 hours. When I went to cut it, it was EXTREMELY SOFT and when I did the zap test, it ZAPPED!!!!! Is this batch ruined? What do I do? I'm so confused!!! This is my second batch and I was so confident!! :( Do I throw it away? Can it be salvaged? I used 21 ounces of olive oil, 6 ounces of Jojoba oil, 2 ounces of palm oil and 6 ounces of canola oil, and 4.2 ounces of lye. What do I do? Help!!!!!!!!

Canola is a soft oil. Jojoba won't add much hardness either. 4.2 ozs. of lye is only 2% superfat. For a 5% superfat, your lye should have been at 4.13 ozs. Dial down with a number like this. If you don't have a scale that measures this small amount. So you would do 4.1 oz. of lye.

Noni,

I think you should wait alittle longer - like up to 48 hours and retest for zap. I have had soaps that take alittle longer to soaponify because I do not gel with the use of milk.

Thank you very much ladies, one last question. If I wait the 24 hrs and there is no zap,oes that mean that the soap is ok? Like, should I wait the 4 to 6 weeks if there's no zap and the bars is hard? Thank you.

If all your calculations are correct, there should be no zap after 3 days. I say 3 days because I don't gel and that's how long it takes sometimes so I don't get a zap.

I used 11 ounces of water. I am going to check today as it has been over 24 hours.
