Teach Soap

i was looking for my original post about unmolding my soap, and just decided to write a new one.

so my first batch of CP soap was too big, and i threw the excess raw soap into one of the 'oops' molds i got while i was at BB a couple weeks ago.

people gave me awesome suggestions, but i just *couldnt* get it out of the mold gently enough.

so i used a butter knife to pry it all out, annd i guess my question is.. what now? i have about 2 pounds of CP that looks awful (from the prying out of the mold) but i dont want to just toss it. so if i get up the nerve to try the zap test, and i dont get zapped... can i rebatch it even though it was just made on the 5th of may? does CP need to be cured for the month before rebatching? i would most likely be using my crock pot. it has a low temperature setting.

if i do the zap test and DO get zapped... can it still be rebatched? or should i just throw it out at that point? or let it sit for a few more weeks?

is rebatching as easy as letting it sit in the crockpot until it looks as it should, adding some FO and remolding?

The fresher the soap, the better and easier to rebatch. CP doesn't need to cure before rebatch. If it's a small batch and still zaps after 3 days, just toss it. Otherwise chunk it up into your crock pot and cook on low til it's the consistency of chunky mashed potatoes. Then glop into your mold. Cut as soon as it cools off.

rebatching tomorrow instead, since this last question is kind of important...

is it safe to rebatch soap in a crockpot used for food? i know for pretty much everything you have to have one for food, one for soap (silicone cake molds, pots etc) but do i need to get a crockpot specially for rebatching?

Once used for soapmaking I would not use for food. The oils or fragrance could remain in the pot and 'flavor' your food. I think that is why some soapers use the boil-bag method.

i actually recieved it as a gift from my mom and NEVER use it... so it will be for soap now. i can get a replacement insert if i need or just use our roommates crockpot if i really NEED a crockpot.
