i feel like a total dummy!

after soaping last night, i was putting the arm/blade part on my stick blender. its one of those detachable ones, for easier cleaning. aaaanyways, the blender is marked incorrectly, and it tells you to turn it one way to loosen where in actuality you have to turn it the opposite way... so i ended up cutting myself (not on the blade thank gosh) but on the sharp edges on the blade guard (ironic?!) THREE times...

this was after i finish cleaning my soap pot and all my tools, so i didnt have my gloves on (the blender was cleaned already too). well, i guess i had a bit of residual raw soap on a towel, and i got into into the cuts on my hand...

i ran cold water over them for a long time and then soaked my hand in a glass of vinegar, and they felt ok, but theyre lookin bad today- all red and painful. should i have done anything differently to treat them? would something like that warrant a doctors visit? i did watch Anne-Marie's lye safety video, and ive read the part in the everything soapmaking book and they both mention eyes and skin, but i dont remember either mentioning cuts.

wow without seeing them it would be hard to say... are the cuts still open (edges apart?). Do they look 'angry' like they are infected or is it the burn appearance. How close are all 3 cuts. If you burnt the inner tissue the cuts may not seal like they should... the tissue could sluff off. They would be more prone to infection. Do you have a primary doctor or nurse direct you could call, or else you could go to an immediate care clinic. If you did get a bad burn there are creams that can help heal and prevent complications. Let us know!

If the edges of the cuts didn't come together and it's swollen and red, I would have someone at a clinic or an MD take a look at it. Can you use a permanent marker and put an arrow or some kind of a mark on it so you know which way to turn it to get the blade off?

Im thinking you got cut and ( chemicaly)burned at the same time. Id treat it like you did and also use cold compresses and burn cream or aloe on it or honey. Hope it's better today.

Definitely sounds like chemical burns on top of an abrasion/iritated skin. Fresh aloe is very healing and soothing. You could also consider polysporin to protect against infection.

Good luck.

thanks for asking!

the two on the palm of my hand have disappeared almost (they were very very shallow), but the one on my index finger is still a bit swollen and painful. pretty sure its just because its right on the crease, so it moves alot and gets irritated. seems like it will be fine though!

:)
