Teach Soap

Where can you find skin safe charcoal? Someone told me about it when I started soaping and made it sound like it's something you can find locally? Also, I know it's a detoxifier, but what other reasons (benefits) would you use charcoal? I'm assuming it naturally colors the soap black?

See if you can find activated charcoal at your local pharmacy. It's used internally for upset tummies. Charcoal is useful for oily skin and it doesn't discolor a wash cloth unlike oxides or micas. It can make a nice black.

Perfect! Thank you! Can it be used in m&p or just cp? My husband's skin gets really oily and I want to make him one. How much do you put in?

The activated charcoal here is a liquid mixed with sorbitol... is that what you use or is it more of a granule or power?

Guess I will have to shop around. Maybe I am just used to seeing what they use in medical emergencies. I knew something did not look right, guess that is why I have not purchased any yet.

what about aquarium charcoal?

i read the ingredients from my brothers canister (hes an aquarium fanatic) and its just 100% activated carbon.

Anyway, I stopped by our grocery store pharmacy and asked if they carried activated charcoal. She told me to look for Chaser and said Walgreens had it. They did, but turns out it isn't just activated charcoal. But, they had something called Charcocaps. It does say it also contains cellulose and gelatin (the capsule shell). Is the cellulose a problem? I found charcotabs online for much cheaper (but, since I have this, I'll use it if the cellulose isn't a prob). How do I know if it's skin safe?
