I was just sitting here thinking about newbies like myself that are limited to certain fragrances and colours, moulds etc.. if we do choose a theme how long are we going to have to make the soap?
it's probably not just me that would have to buy stuff for the theme.
is it definately going to be between autumn or winter? maybe the host can choose the theme or take a poll, i want to make sure i am prepared and have things done in time :)

another fragrance addict  but i would prefer NOT to buy special items for the swap as we all know soaping in oz is kinda expensive (well i think so anyway!)

Not just an expensive hobby ,its so frustrating when l see all the wonderful items you can get in the States and it costs an arm and a leg for postage that's even if they will sell internationally .One silicone mould supplier on Ebay from the States has fantastic moulds and they want over $40 just to send one mould needless to say l still don't own the mould and unless l win Tatts am not likely too either.
My biggest annoyance is the fact that they sell Low Sweat Coconut soap at Aussie Soap Supplies but only opaque and they have no plans to bring in the clear why stock one and not the other beats me. :x
You have to be keen to be a M & P soaper in OZ :D

I agree with what has been suggested. Theme was originally suggested when we only had 4 participants so were doing 2 soaps each. I think now that we have more participants (way more than I expected :) ) and we're only doing one soap each, let's give the theme a miss this time. If all works out well, perhaps we can host another themed soap in 3-6 months time.

And right there with you on the expensive front. I've been meaning to look into how much ordering bases directly from Brambleberry would cost. The prices are so much lower that the discount may actually compensate for the higher postage cost. Only problem is I'm really impatient and hate waiting :P

Yeah I was just checking out aussie soap supplies bases.. at the moment the exchange rate is pretty good, the postage may be a killer but it may still be better then what we re paying here.

I'm looking at purchasing some moulds from Brambleberry. They very kindly sent me a quote on the postage and the moulds work out at AU$14.47 each (including postage) which I thought was really good! Similar moulds are $13 each plus postage on Aussie Soap. I guess the difference is that they're not heavy!! Would love to try some of the Brambleberry "other" things but am unsure about customs and know that the weight from the base would make it too expensive.
Now that I know the postage isn't going to price it way out of my range I'm going to have another look and see what else takes my fancy!!

pops1 - yeah after i wrote down the exchange rate is ok, but postage is a killer, i was thinking back to when i was trying to get some cheap books on amazon for about $2 - $6 US each, the price was great but not to $30 postage for two books.

yep definately cheaper to buy from aussie soap supplies. i will when i get to selling soaps and getting better at what i do. :)

Getting off the subject of the soap swap a bit but since most of the people that will read this are aussies l thought l would give you a great place to buy soaping and candle books from the states its called Betterworld books which is a charity in the States that helps worldwide literacy. Some books are new some are used but all are a lot cheaper than you can get over here and the postage is only $3.97 per book for International postage.I have bought a couple of soap books from here and been lucky enough to receive 3 from my son as presents ,they do take about 3 weeks to get to you but its worth the wait. The books in stock change all the time so its worth checking every week or so if you are after a certain book.
