Hi Peggy I do use Optiphen in the lotions I sell. But on myself I'll either use Grapefruit seed extract or nothing. I've had my lotions for a couple of months and no mold. I know other stuff can grow but so far they are nice. I use Vitamin E to prevent a little racidity. Also I was told by my supplier that Optiphen was one of the best most natural complete preservatives but everyone has their opinion and choices. Oh Optiphen is Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol.

I know things are absorbed through the skin, I use a little Progesterone cream monthly for PMS.. works wonders.. It sits on the skin like lotion and like those patches. They all have lots of time to soak into the pours and bloodstream. I'd be curious though to hear from a doctor or naturopath if something that is mostly washed off..like soap can be absorbed.
