Hi again,

I made an olive oil batch for the first time a few months ago. As soon as I poured the lye mixture into
the oils and started mixing with blender, it curdled and hardened. I never had this problem with my other
soaps. the recipe I used is: Olive 30% - coconut 15% - Palm 15% - 5%sp - I think I soaped @120F
I used unrefined pomace olive oil (pomace was sank at the bottom of the bottle).

any idea what went wrong? Did this happen because the mixture was too hot?

Thanks :)

Are you sure it was pure olive oil? It shouldn't sink to the bottom. I normally soap at around 110 degrees. Were your oils and lye at about the same temp?

The oil looked fine, had strong olive smell. But, I'm not sure ,I only used that olive oil
for olive oil soap because I didn't want the strong olive smell dominate eos.

I always check for the temperature of oil and lye solution to be the same before mixing them
together. It could've been the olive oil  :!:
Thanks soapbuddy

I'm seeing more and more people have problems with olive oil. Carapelli brand seems to be adulterated. One lady had problems with her olive oil bought at Smart & Final. The importers they get away with it because some olive oils are mixed from different countries. If only one country doesn't have stringent rules on olive oil, it could be adulterated. When it's added to the mix, the whole oil is adulterated, yet it's still called pure olive oil.

The importers get away with it because by the time it is a huge problem all the stock is sold. Be very careful of your suppliers, people who will back up their product if there is a problem. BB for one!
