I am stocking up for the farmers market season and recently purchased a bakers rack for curing my soaps. For some reason my soaps are still soft and its been (in some cases) almost 7 weeks! the only thing different is that i moved the rack into the bathroom, its a bit colder and gets less circulation, did i mention that im in the basement? Could that be the reason. I set up a fan a few days ago and put the radiant heater in there. do you think that will help! OMG im freaking out, I have over 300 bars in there!

thanks! signed worried.

Basements normally have more humidity and soaps there might be more prone to DOS. I would get them out of there as soon as you can, so the water can evaporate. Or get a dehumidifier for your basement. Fan doesn't help much as it only circulates the damp air around, but doesn't dry it.

Yep what Soapbuddy said. My work area is in my basement and I have a dehumidifier running 24/7 all year round. My soaps cure great and no DOS in 5 years!! 8)

Thanks guys! I immediately turned my dehumidifier back on and closed the door, it has already come down 10% dropping it to 31%! thanks guys, my husband plans on transporting them all upstairs. also, Could that be what happened to my peppermint soap with the mint leaves? the herb turned color on me for the first time! all these little spots around each spec of peppermint, dang!

thanks again everyone!
