How many bars of soap does 16 oz. of melt and pour soap bases make?

Are they usually 4 oz. for a regular size bar?

Would the plastic baby food containers work fine for melt and pour soap? If so, how many oz. would 1/2 full container be, approx.?

Thanks,
Ky. Kelly

Well I use a measuring cup and water to figure out how much m and p a mold can hold. Put the water in the mold, empty the mold into the measuring cup and viola the amount you need. Multiply out until you reach 16 oz. That should work.

My molds vary, so I go by the weight of the scale. I weigh everything to get an accurate result each and every time.

An average size bar of soap is usually around 4oz. However, they can be anywhere from 3 to 6 so you never know for certain without weighing it.

So if the bars were in fact 4oz then a 16oz block of MP would make 4 bars of soap.

Yes, baby food containers should work fine for MP soap.

Baby food containers (or any food containers) should tell you what the size they are on the label. This is the weight of the baby food though, not of soap, so it will be a little off. :D

It also depends on if you fill your molds to the top or not, etc. I always keep some small embed molds nearby when I'm pouring, you never know when you'll have just a little extra which makes the perfect sample soap sizes!
