:?: Hi,
I am new here, but I have been reading the posts for a long time. I may have posted before, but I don't remember. I am going to try making some melt and pour soap soon. I have a recipe that I want to try. Please look at the ingredients below and see if I can get them all at Bramble Berry.

Here are the ingredients:

Goatsmilk and Oatmeal Soap

*2 pounds opaque base

*goatsmilk or buttermilk powder (I believe I can get this here, but I think I saw on BB wedsite that I can get a goatsmilk base, would that better than the powder?)

*1 T. Emu Oil

*1 tsp. of stearic acid flakes (the recipe says to melt the emu oil with the stearic acid flakes)

*fragrance oil or assential oil (I know I can get these at BB, but what scent would be good for
goatsmilk and oatmeal soap?)

*Color (What color would be good for this soap?)

There is a couple of more ingredients, but I can get them here.

Does anyone have anymore advice for a newby like me?

Thanks,
Kelly

Welcome!
I don't think that BB carries emu oil. I don't understand why would you want to add the stearic acid? If you do, you might loose some bubbles. You can add any fragrance you like. Vanilla is good, but it will discolor you soap. Oatmeal, Milk & Honey would be good in your soap too. As far as color, I would just leave it as is.

Soapbuddy,
Thanks for your reply. Here are some questions for you or whoever?

So, what would I use in place of the emu oil?

And would the goatsmilk base be better than the opaque base?

Lastly, do you have or know where there is a good recipe for a goatsmilk and oatmeal soap, with or without the honey? I am wanting a recipe that is good for someone with sensitive skin, and they may be allergic to honey in food, but it could be the preservatives and not the honey that they are allergic to. Plus, I want it to make us, that are not allergic to it, feel good and clean after using it. And to not make us have extra dry skin.

I am wanting to order soon, so all the help that I can get would be good from Soapbuddy or anyone.

Thanks,
Kelly

Instead of the Emu, you can use just about any other oil. Almond, grapeseed, apricot kernel etc...
If they maybe allergic to honey, I would just leave it out. Either base should work fine for you. If you want to add oatmeal, either grind it fine or use colloidial oatmeal. Add it at the last possible moment, otherwise it will sink to the bottom. Honey should not have a preservative as is.

Welcome!!! I'm pretty new here too, you'll find lots of help from everyone!

I have a soap bar that I made with the BB honey soap base and added ground oatmeal and almonds. I also left it to color as is (the honey base is somewhat clear) and used the BB oatmeal, milk and honey fragrance oil ... it is a great fragrance!! I would probably just use the goat's milk base, but I would think it's a personal preference.

I actually like to have a little bit of the oatmeal sink so it's on the top and then mix it so the rest so it's throughout the whole bar.

GOOD LUCK! And post your results!

Thanks, Amy. You were a big help. I think I am going to make some soap with the goatsmilk soap base and add oatmeal and honey. And also want to make some without the honey. I am also going to use the oatmeal, milk and honey fragrance oil. I am excited to get started. I have wanted to make some soap for a long time. I am also wanting to try making some other things like lotion, face wash, etc.

Thanks again,
Ky. Kelly
