Teach Soap

I just received my order of mango butter & used it for the first time today. I was very surprised at the consistency of it. I thought it would be like shea, but instead, it was crumbly. Is something wrong with it, or is that its true state?

I've gotten both from BB. One had the consistency of whipped margarine and the other was like crumbly brown sugar. I used both and they worked fine. I've also had the same issue with avocado butter. Some was clumpy and others were smooth. I don't know if anything was wrong with them or if it was a temperature issue. But they both performed the same.....which was fine.

Mango butter comes to the vendor in a large block. Depending where the mango chunks came from (sides or inside), it can be either crumbly or creamy. It doesn't affect the quality.

Great info. thanks! The reason I asked was because when I added my lye water to the oils & started to mix them (110 degrees), the mixture looked very grainey & continued to have that appearance until full trace. I took a look at it last night before going to bed & it was in full gel. Any thoughts?

I have also had both creamy soft Mango and crumbly Mango sometimes sort of white parts on the edges which looked shiny.

I have soaped it all and had no issues at all. Did you heat your oils together so they were all liquid? And how is the soap now it is unmolded?

I did melt all the oils together & I soaped at about 110 degrees. I opened my BB coconut & palm in November & keep them in an air tight container. The other oils are new, I opened them the day I made the soap. Nothing smells funky so I think they are fine. When I unmolded today, the soap stuck a little to the WSP silicone mold (thanks Supersoaper for the suggestion!) I just purchased (first time use). A comment was made by one person that if you use castor, your soap will stick to the mold. Another review said their soap didn't stick & they used castor. UGH! I may have taken the soap out of the mold prematurely, I'm not sure b/c I do not have experience with silicone molds.

The hardest part is waiting another 4 weeks to see if it is a viable soap...torture I tell you!

I've used castor also and have had no problems unmolding, but I do use sodium lactate in the batch.
