Teach Soap

I've been making mp soap and am starting to get more and more curious about cp soaps. I'm finding it a bit daunting, mainly the thought of using lye with a 3yo in the house, though, I should be able to do it out in the garage while he is occupied by my hubby.

So, I'm looking at supplies and am wondering about the cutting tool ... can I take out a block of cp soap and cut it with the same tool I use for mp soaps (from bb) or do I have to use a special cutter? Eventually, I'd think I'd want a mold and cutter that fit together so I can cut the bars perfectly, but if I can get away without it to start with, I'd rather do that.

Thoughts?

If it's what I'm thinking, then yes, you can use the same cutter. When you can, get a CP soap cutter. You might even be able to use the same blade as you use for MP.

Thanks soapbuddy! It is the cutter from bb, so that's good to know. I think I am going to hold off a bit for learning cp soaping, possibly next month or the month after and I should have a better understanding of how it is made, safety, etc. I should be able to just get the cp cutter then as well.

Not to butt in, don't be afraid of the lye. As long as your little one cannot get near it to spill or inhail the fumes and you follow basic safety rules, your fine. Ann Marie posted a great link on lye safety. I think we were all scared at first to try making soap. To me, I get burned more from frying bacon then lye.

Wouldn't that be funny to see us frying bacon with goggles and gloves on all the time
Not that lye isn't way more dangerous, try it soon and you'll be hooked!!
