I just made my first batch of lotion and it turned out ok, but after I put it on myself after my shower there was this warming sensation that I had on my body. I didn't break out in a funky rash or anything and the feeling went away after 10-15 minutes but I'm curious to know if anyone has had that happen before. Also, my lotion wasn't as smooth as I expected it to be. Any suggestions would be wonderful!! Here is my recipe:

65% water
5% e-wax
5% beeswax
8% shea butter
8% sweet almond oil
8% jojoba oil
.5% optiphen
.5% lavender e.o.

I would cut out the beeswax. It's not needed and it will mess up your formula if you use e-wax. Add that % to your almond or jojoba. Make sure that you use a stick blender.

Ok, so I've tried my lotion again to make sure that it wasn't something different and I still got the same warming sensation. Could it have been the preservative? Could I have added too much?? I finally threw it away over the weekend, but I don't want to make another batch if it's my preservative. I have used all of the products in the lotion before, except for the e-wax and the preservative, and didn't have any problems. Any suggestions?

How much preservative did you use for how big of a batch?

I used .5% I believe and it came to 1000 g. I know that you, Soapbuddy, had told me to not use beeswax so I wont in my next batch. But here is what I used.....

65% water
5% ewax
5% beeswax
8% shea butter
8% sweet almond oil
8% jojoba oil
.5% optiphen
.5% lavender e.o.

Yep. I have used them all blended together (except for the preservative and the ewax) without any issues. That is what makes me wonder if it's the preservative. I think I read somewhere in this forum that there are some people who are sensitive to the preservative....which is why I brought that up.

YEAH!!! I made my second batch of lotion and did it right!! I figured out that I used way too much preservative with the first batch, so that's why I had that warming sensation. I didnt read my notes properly, but I did this time and it came out just like I wanted. The only minor issue is that it doesn't smell like the e.o I put in, but that's ok. I had to order more e-wax so when that comes in, I'll be making more! I am so excited and happy that it came out right. I would like to add some vitamin e to the next batch, but I'm a little nervous to add anything. What can I adjust if I want to add something...I'm sure that it also depends on what I want to add. :D

325 g water
25 g e-wax
40 g shea butter
52.5 g sweet almond oil
52.5 jojoba oil
2.5 g optiphen
2.5 g e.o.

Ok, now that I have made a couple of batches that have come out really good.... :D I'm curious how to price my lotions. What is the best way? I'm not retail selling these (not yet anyway) but my friends and family have already tried and are willing to start paying. Also, do I need to get my lotion tested or not until I go retail (whenever that will be)? Any and all help is truely appreciated!
