I have seen this some time back but don't remember what the discussion concluded or if there was a conclusion.

What is the proper percentages of hard oils and soft oils for a batch of soap?

If the percentages are skewed to the hard oils what is the result?

If the precentages are skewed to the soft oils what is the result?

Thank you all for indulging this subject I just can't seem to find the answer.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the old posts about balancing the amounts of soft and hard oils? I use soap calc. I remember for whipped soap use more solid oils. I just can't find the thread and I've searched. Thanks anyone!

I try to aim for at least 50% hard oils. The final soap depends on how much superfat, if you do any water discount, did you add any salt? Any sugar? I've had a few formulas that looked great on paper; in real life, not so much. Too many hard oils and I don't get much lather. Too many soft oils make for a soft bar and possible DOS.

Thanks soapbuddy, it wasn't anything specific I was looking for ie salt or sugar, or even a whipped soap which I think needs more hard oils. Just in general is it good to balance 50/50 say for a translucent look, that's what I'm after at this point. I love the translucence of some CP soaps KWIM? :lol:

I find if I don't gel my soaps, they tend to have more of that translucense.

Oh thanks for the tip! I thought it would be ingredients like hard or soft oils not the curing process of the method of saponification. Great suggestions!
