Help! I need some advice! I've made some MP soap using an organic base and it's developing spots. I have two sets of soap - one of which I rinsed with water and let dry (to remove a painting mistake) and the other which I didn't. The rinsed ones have developed a white coating that wipes off - only to return a few days later (it looks like a coating of powder). The other soaps are fine. I can't figure out what's causing it! I used base, essential oil and pigment - nothing unusual. The only difference between the two is the rinse. What's happening???? :(

It's most likely the water as this happens to CP soaps too. I would not rinse your soaps. I would try wiping it off with some alcohol instead.

I never thought of using alcohol - thank you for the suggestion Soapbuddy. :)

If it's the water - which makes sense - I wonder if a similar situation happens when the product is used daily. I'd hate to think that some of my soap looks like that after each use. I did get one report of a similar problem and when looking back at my notes, discovered it was a bar from the batch I rinsed. Crazy.

Well, at least I can add this to my list of "disasters" - right under the shrink wrap debacle! ;)

I wouldn't call it a disaster. When you lather up the soap, some of the bubbles will stay behind. As they dry, you will get the white appearance. It's just an esthetic issue. :)
